Nicholas Aiton
Nicholas Aiton, Multi Award-Winning Cinematographer, Director, and Photographer, as well as the proud founder of Mad God Games, a leading-edge tabletop game company.
Nicholas’s journey began in the world of cinematography, where he quickly discovered a passion for framing and visualising stories.
This passion has culminated in numerous awards for cinematography and directorial work which is a testament to his commitment to create emotionally captivating narratives.
His first short film “Life Is A Circus” was a documentary to raise awareness for Aspergers which aired on national television. Nicholas has also made various films for competitions in the short film category, being rewarded for his efforts at the ASIN 2016 Film Awards by winning the Tony Bonner award for Best Emerging New Talent. His short film “Ruby” went on to win Best Actor (Nathan Richter), Most Valued Crew Member (Sam Horne) and Highest Achievement Music Composer (Adam Swinson).
In 2017 his film “Once A Knight” received the Highest Achievement for Cinematography and in 2018 his film “Always Watching” receiving the Highest Achievement for Cinematography.
Photography is Nicholas’s greatest passions, by creating a visual memory of an instant in time, a moment that is captured forever, he describes as an empowering feeling.
Capturing memories and art requires a keen eye, an ability to “see” the big picture and a passion to create that lasting image. His ability to produce top quality photographic art remains one of his greatest passions.
Nick is a third generation photographer and is currently studying photography through the New York Institute of Photography to further improve his technical skills.
Nicholas also has a wide variety of other achievements under his belt, some of these are the 2012 and 2013 YMCA Youth Parliament member for Maryborough, the 2012 recipient of YMCA Mind, Body and Spirit Award, 2009 Wide Bay Group Training Personal Achievement Award, winner of 2009 Australian Jnr Classic Cup (10pin bowling) and Australian Jnr Champion 10 pin bowler, metal weapons sword fighting instructor, street performer, Drum Major, bass & tenor drum tutor, and founder of the “Maryborough Warlords” Gamers Club.
The “Maryborough Warlords” Gamers Club was founded by Nicholas when he was 16 from his passion for all kinds of table top gaming, from board games to strategy war games, and story driven Role Playing Games. As part of that passion and in order to have a place for people to enjoy those games in a good and friendly atmosphere, Nicholas created the club and kept it one of the only free to play gaming clubs in Australia where everyone could play in an accepting and un-judging environment. This has lead to a great number and diversity of players from the oldest veteran player to the youngest beginner and having more than 60 members ranging from 7 years to 70+ years, from all walks of life and backgrounds. The clubs activities included “Therapy Through Play Initiative” and “Mentoring Programs”. Nicholas has run the club for over 11 years with the club operating 2 days a week, in 2020 the club suspend its operations for the Covid 19 pandemic and as the on going risk to the health and safety of its members from Covid 19 still persist in 2023 the club has not been able to return to its activities.
Nick’s love for storytelling extends beyond the screen and into the realm of tabletop gaming. As the founder of Mad God Games, he has created a universe that combines immersive narratives with strategic gameplay.
